ITINERARY

DAY 1. MARCH 10, 2019. SUNDAY. ARRIVE IN AMMAN

Arrivals in Amman throughout the day. Each participant is responsible to get themselves from the airport to our hotel in downtown Amman. A welcome dinner will be held for those who arrive in time. No activities are scheduled today.

DAY 2. MARCH 11, 2019. MONDAY. AMMAN - SOWAYMA

We’ll spend the morning exploring Amman, starting at the Roman Citadel and walking down to the Amman Amphitheater and downtown, where we’ll have a traditional Jordanian lunch at Hashem’s Restaurant. We’ll then drive to the resort town of Sowayma on the Dead Sea where we’ll check into our hotel and mud up before floating in the Dead Sea for sunset. We’ll spend the night at a resort in Sowayma.

DAY 3. MARCH 12, 2019. TUESDAY. SOWAYMA - WADI MUJIB - WADI MUSA

After breakfast, we’ll set out for Wadi Mujib, a massive slot canyon within the Wadi El Mujib Reserve. There, we’ll spend the next three hours canyoning— hiking through the water and scrambling over boulders and waterfalls— in this incredible natural feature. Lead by a local guide from the Adventure Centre, this hike is both a challenge and a highlight of the trip. The canyon is absolutely incredible and the journey up and back down is thrilling. After canyoning, we’ll then drive towards Madi Musa, the town nearest to the ruins at Petra, stopping for lunch on the way. We’ll spend the evening at a Bedouin Camp near Wadi Musa glamping with our Bedouin hosts.

DAY 4. MARCH 13, 2019. WEDNESDAY. PETRA

We’ll wake up very early and take packed breakfasts on our way to Petra. Departing at 6am from our Bedouin Camp, we’ll off road in jeeps to the back door entrance of Petra before we hike about one hour directly through the mountains to the Monastery. Coming this early and headed directly to the monastery is spectacular: the 4,000 visitors per day Petra receives will not catch up to us for another couple hours and we’ll have the place practically to our selves. After a cup of coffee, we’ll descend the 900 or so rock stairs into the centre of Petra, where we can make a stop for lunch before exploring the rest of the site. In the evening we’ll return to the Bedouin Camp for some music, dancing and sheesha.

DAY 5. MARCH 14, 2019. THURSDAY. PETRA - WADI RUM

We’ll get another early start on the day in order to watch sunrise from the Siq Trail in Petra. We’ll depart again at 6am, and head directly to Petra’s main gate, where we will descend the long and windy Siq Trail to the famous Treasury building. From there we’ll hike to a quick viewpoint used by the Bedouin above the Treasury and then to the tombs of the nobles and a more significant birds eye view point above the ancient city. We’ll return to the Bedouin Camp for breakfast around 9am. Then, we’ll check out and drive 2 hours through southern Jordan to the Wadi Rum Desert. Upon arrival, we’ll meet our local Bedouin team and head off road into the desert on pick up trucks. We’ll have a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon exploring the desert. In the evening, we’ll sleep under the stars in a naturally forming rock bay in the desert (mattresses, pillows and blankets provided).

DAY 6. MARCH 15, 2019. FRIDAY. WADI RUM

We’ll wake up with the sun and have a slow morning in the desert. We will spend the day exploring Bedouin culture throughout this spectacular landscape, joining our local hosts on hikes up mountains and around the desert. Expect about 5 hours of hiking time today, so be sure to have good, sturdy shoes on. In the evening we will camp again under the stars and listen to Bedouin music while sipping mint tea.

DAY 7. MARCH 16, 2019. SATURDAY. WADI RUM - AMMAN

We’ll once again wake up early with the sun and have a relaxing morning in the desert. Our hosts will prepare breakfast at the campsite. We’ll then pack everything up and load into the pick up trucks to return to Wadi Rum town. From there we’ll bid our hosts farewell and make the drive back to Amman (5 hours), stopping for a quick lunch en route. We’ll reach Amman in time for a rest and then a conluding dinner downtown. Overnight in Amman.

DAY 8. MARCH 17, 2019. SUNDAY. DEPART FROM AMMAN

Departures throughout the day; no scheduled activities. Airport transfers to QAIA may be arranged from the hotel front desk and remember in Jordan it’s best to arrive 2-3 hours before your flight.
