EGYPT & JORDAN TREK

Dates: October 6-21, 2018
Group: 14 participants
Skill: Easy
Core: Egypt
Peripheral: Jordan

DESCRIPTION

This two-week trek through Egypt and Jordan is lead by travel blogger and photographer Nastasia Yakoub. Nastasia is a Michigan native of Chaldean background, and grew up speaking English and Arabic. She began Dame Traveler several years as a way to encourage young women to get out and explore.

Egypt is the home of long deceased Pharaohs, ancient Kingdoms, and annals of history that eclipse generations. Our core week takes us from the Great Pyramids to hectic Cairo, then way out into the desert to explore the oasis towns around Dakhla, where we visit local families, and learn more about Egypt's culture.  We continue south to descend into the burial chambers of the Pharaohs and wander amongst majestic temple ruins in Luxor, where we sail the Nile before returning to Cairo.

For the peripheral week, we travel to nearby Jordan, where we explore this intersection of several thousand years of human history. We start in Amman before continuing south to float in the Dead Sea. From there, we explore the ancient Nabataean capital of Petra, a city carved out of pink stone cliffs. We take 4x4s into the desert at Wadi Rum to live with Beduin nomads under the stars before checking out the village of Dana and making our way back to Amman.
