TRIP DESCRIPTION
This itinerary is designed to bring you over the border from Oman into Yemen to explore the Al Mahrah region. Once its own independent sultanate along with the island of Socotra, Al Mahrah forms a distinct cultural and geographical region within South Arabia. The population along the coast is diverse, with influences from Arabia, the Horn of Africa, and the Swahili Coast, while the deserts of the interior are sparsely populated by Mehri Bedouins, many still speak the Mahri language, one of the ancient languages of South Arabia still in existence. This trip will bring you both along the coastline to explore fishing communities, deserted white sand beaches, and turquoise waters, as well as into the Empty Quarter to stay with semi-nomadic camel herders.
